Technology is changing the rules of the broadcasting game so companies must discover how to provide what Canadians want, when they want it. The Vancouver Board of Trade heard from CBC/Radio-Canada’s president and chief executive officer, Hubert T. Lacroix about these topics and more in a recent Distinguished Speaker Presentation.

Lacroix discussed the breadth and depth of programming provided by CBC which spans virtually all medians and reaches millions of Canadians. Following his presentation to the Board of Trade, Lacroix kindly agreed to meet with a group of CYP and LOT Member to share his experiences and provide some insight for those in the early stages of their career.

Prior to joining CBC, Lacroix held senior roles in the legal industry and was the executive chairman of Telemedia Corporation. Lacroix has been with CBC for nearly two years and has worked to ensure that employees are provided the training to contribute to CBC’s evolving goals.

Lacroix addressed many unique obstacles CBC faces including, the huge budgets of American Television shows, generating sufficient revenue from their website (Canada’s most visited website) and ensuring that the employee workload is sustainable.

Throughout the discussion Lacroix emphasized the importance of not only working in their community but being a part of their community. In fact, the day after his presentation, CBC Vancouver welcomed the public for a station tour and open house while raising funds for the Greater Vancouver Foodbank Society.

The Company of Young Professionals and Leaders of Tomorrow would like to thank Hubert Lacroix for taking the time to address the Board of Trade’s young people as he shared some invaluable insight about the broadcasting industry.
