LOT Habitat for Humanity Build!
by Austin Nairn

Thanks to the organizational direction of LOT Mentee Michael Lin and Program Committee Member Sterling Tran, this year the Leaders of Tomorrow participated in their first ever Habitat for Humanity Build on Saturday, August 29.
Habitat for Humanity is a global organization that believes “access to safe, decent and affordable housing should be available to all.” Their mission is “to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.”
We would like to thank LOT Mentees Lisa Balcaen, Paul Gill, Jay Jagpal, Michael Lin, Nicky Lin, Samuel Liu, Victoria Tang and Sterling Tran who all participated in making this day a success as they contributed their time, efforts, and brute strength. Their day was spent securing floor boards to the second level of the housing complex which will accommodate five local families upon completion.

This is just one example of many, as the volunteer accomplishments of this year’s LOT members have been outstanding! Some of their contributions include projects assessing the impact of the 2010 Olympic Games, analyzing provincial and federal budgets, and examining issues pertaining to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
We have received regular feedback about LOT’s willingness to go above and beyond to see that their projects are as impactful as possible. We greatly appreciate all their efforts and hope that the skills and relationships they develop through the program will benefit them in business and in life.
